Custom reports

Custom reports

Build your own reusable report template: the form fields, sharing and how generation works.

A custom report is a saved template that tells Wolfy exactly what to write, instead of picking from the built-in report catalog. You write it once, from the "Generate a report" dialog's Custom reports tab and reuse it on demand or on a schedule, on any Google Ads account.

The template form

Click New report template to open the form. Every field maps directly to what Wolfy sees when it writes the report.

Example of the custom report template form

A short summary shown on the report card.

Tell Wolfy exactly what the report should contain and how it should be structured.

Hints about which metrics, dimensions or date ranges to pull. Leave blank to let Wolfy decide.

Concrete examples of the output you expect. You can add up to 3 examples.

Fetch data from every account selected (the focus account plus any comparison accounts), not just the focus account.

Every member of your organisation will be able to generate, schedule, and edit this report.

  • Name (required, up to 60 characters). Shown as the template's title on its card.
  • Description (optional, up to 200 characters). A short summary shown on the card, underneath the name.
  • Instructions (required, up to 1000 characters). The core of the template: what the report should contain and how it should be structured. This is the main thing Wolfy follows when writing the report.
  • Data guidance (optional, up to 500 characters, collapsed by default). Hints about which metrics, dimensions, or date ranges to pull. Leave it blank and Wolfy decides based on your instructions.
  • Examples (optional, up to 3, each up to 1000 characters, collapsed by default). Concrete samples of the output you expect, so Wolfy can match your tone and level of detail.
  • Multi-account report. Off by default, meaning the report only uses your focus account. Turn it on to fetch data from every account you've selected (the focus account plus any comparison accounts) instead.
  • Share with everyone at [your organisation]. Only shown for organisations that qualify for sharing (see below). Off by default, so a new template starts out personal to you.

If your organisation doesn't qualify for sharing, the toggle is replaced with an upgrade prompt instead.

Personal or shared

A template is either:

  • Personal, visible only to you.
  • Shared, visible to everyone in your current organisation, who can then generate, schedule, and edit it too.

You can flip a template between the two at any time by editing it and toggling Share with everyone at [your organisation]. Sharing is scoped to your current organisation, so switching organisations changes which shared templates you see.

Custom reports themselves need an eligible plan. If yours doesn't qualify, the New report template button and each template's Generate button are replaced with a Pro required link to upgrade.

Generating, editing and deleting

A custom report generates the same way as a catalog report: click Generate on its card, and it goes through the same Pending, Generating, Completed (or Failed) lifecycle described in Reports.

Hover a template's card to reveal Edit and Delete buttons.

  • Editing reopens the same form with the current values filled in. Changing a template only affects reports you generate from it afterward: it doesn't rewrite reports you already generated, and it doesn't change a schedule's cadence, only what that schedule produces next.
  • Deleting removes the template for everyone who could see it (immediately, for shared templates), and cannot be undone.

Scheduling a custom report

A schedule can point at a custom report template the same way it points at a catalog report type. See Scheduling reports for how schedules work.
